How to Create Your Very First Smart Home

Across Europe, the smart home revolution is well underway:

According to statistics, one in 10 households across the continent is now considered a ‘smart’ home, with that figure expected to double by 2022. But despite the rising popularity of connected smart homes, like any new venture knowing where to start can be quite daunting at first. Like something straight from the pages of a sci-fi novel, the technology is now in place to let us control virtually every aspect of our home, but where do we start?

What is a smart home?

A smart home refers to connected devices around the house, things like cameras, automatic blinds, thermostats, pretty much anything that is electronic and connected to other devices.

Located at the center of this network is a hub or a brain which allows us to control all of it, whether that’s through a smart phone or computer, or increasingly, using the rising popularity of Virtual Assistants and their advanced voice recognition software.

Rise of The Virtual Assistants:

One of the biggest advances in our homes in recent years have been Virtual Assistants. Devices such as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant have super advanced voice recognition software and can do a huge number of things to make our life simpler, from making shopping lists to ordering take-out.

One thing that Virtual Assistants can really make a big impact on is the smart home. Sure, it’s easy to have advanced gizmos and tech around the house, controlling our curtains and our heating, but making it easy to control all of those things is what’s really made the smart home something that’s driving the popularity of the connected home.

Somfy TaHoma:

Devices such as Somfy TaHoma are home automation systems that work with connected devices around the home.
